A Wedding on the Beach...

According to the recent research results destination wedding is increasingly rising trend among couples. It is truly a special way to celebrate the day. And while some perfer to pick far-away exotic locations, many find their favorite spot on the nearby shore.

That is exactly what my recent couple, Michael and Natalie, had wished for. They have planned a private wedding on New Jersey beach and it turned out just they way they wanted. I was glad to be there to capture this fun-spirited couple's dream day come true.

We started out with candid shots of the ceremony, followed by a few formal poses and finally some modern style artistic photographs of the newlyweds. Here is what Natalie had to say: "Maya was our wedding photographer. We had a ceremony on a beach, just the two of us, and we wanted to keep things very simple. I could not have wished for a more understanding and tactful photographer! At the ceremony, her presence was hardly noticeable, but she made unbelievable pictures! Her style is original and free of cliche, and the pictures are SO us -- only better! She also took great family photos. She was very quick and did not torture us with a prolonged photoshoot, so the wedding day was actually about us! Her professionalism as well as her cheerful personality really made picture-taking a pleasant experience! We absolutely love the photographs!"

I'd like to thank Michael and Natalie for their kind words and wish them all the best. I think that they had a wonderfull and romantic start to their family life together and I was glad to be there to capture this special day.

Here are few tips for you if you are planning a wedding on a beach:

  • Find out if the beach is private or public and if a permit or permission is required.
  • Look for an area that is evenly leveled and not too damp
  • Know where the sun is going to be throughout the event and remember that sunrise and sunset create the best lighting for photographs
  • If the ceremony is in the middle of the day, consider renting a canopy or beach umbrellas for your guests
  • Be sure to ask about tides (how close does the water come up during high tide)The winds can be quite strong on the beach, so make sure that the bride's veil or hairpieces are securely attached (Maid of Honor or Bride's Mom should always have extra pins, hair clips and spray available)
  • Wear appropriate footwear: unless you plan on laying down temporary floors, flat footwear is essential.
  • Be prepared for weather surprises! Have a back up location or date reserved for any last minute changes.

Good Luck!
